Product Analysis

Bend It Like Beckham

The teaser of the film was hard to find therefore I used the trailer as a guideline. I liked the editing shots of Beckham and Jess as it showed parallelism and gave some sort of overview of the narrative; I think I might do that for my teaser. I also think that the shot in the kitchen of the mum cooking was good as it bought in some culture the long shot of the family in the middle of the football pitch was funny and I think I might use something similar for my teaser. I think the sartorial code of Jess was very well thought out because they portrayed her as not so typical and she was given an own identity which related well to the narrative.

Pride And Prejudice

I think the music complimented the images very well, I think from here I could use the hectic music to show the cultural side of the teaser. However I don’t think the dance was realistic enough because the film didn’t show enough of the cultural side and instead focused more on the characters and their relation in the narrative. I think that I am going to do a shot where there is going to be a cultural gathering where the main characters are going to meet. However I am not going to make it out as if it is a wedding but do it at my house at Eid. I could do this shot at the beginning of October because there is going to be a social gathering there. I am also going to use similar sartorial code to show the difference between cultures as I am going to get all the girls to wear typical Asian clothes.

East Is East:

I like one of the shots from here, the midshot of the frame weher you see the two pictures opposite each other, I think that gave a good way to show the opposite sides of the girl. However I don't think I would be using many ideas from this particular trailer because the film was made a long time ago therefore it doesn't give a realistic view of Asian society now. However I think I might hint at the fact the fact that he doesn't quite fit in even if he is British. I think the difference between the brothers was the key line because it almsot instantly showed what the film would be about and I need a line like that in my teaser aswell.

My Beautiful Launderette:

I thought the this trailer wasn’t particularly useful for my teaser because it portrayed the Asian community as quite savage and I think that because the Asian community in Britain has grown therefore if I was t o put images like this trailer people will find it quite offensive.
I think that the title was a bit random but it showed the parallelism between the launderette and the film. The writing was very plain but in a way it suited the environment because it complimented the background colour.

I was unable to embed the clip therefore I have attached a hyperlink to it below.
Namaste London:

Being the only Bollywood film for my product research I thought I could relate this to my teaser the best because it gave me an insight to what the Asian community may want to see as well as the British community. I realised that there was a difference between the trailer and the teaser. I thought the cuts were too short and it was enigmatic but I don’t think that the British community would be attracted to this trailer because most of it didn’t relate to them. However I did like the scenes which showed the girl in two different types of clothing I think sartorial clothes is an important factor in my teaser because it would show the change from culture to culture. I think this is the closest to my film trailer, because it clearly portrays the difference between the cultures. Although both the actors in the film are from the same race one is from a totally different side of the World which obviously shows the difference in their ways of thinking. This as a result builds up humour throughout the film and I feel that if I was to do something of this sort in English it would be able to sell well as their is a rather large audience for Asian British films now with the outbreak of Slum Dog Millionaire.
